Panora United Methodist Church donates equipment funds to Midwest Missions’ Jefferson location

In July, Midwest Mission, based out of Pawnee, IL, opened its second location in Jefferson. Midwest Mission is a faith-based non-profit organization that works to provide humanitarian aid both domestically and internationally in the areas of disaster relief, health, education, and micro business.

The Iowa location needed an electric pallet jack to easily move pallets in the building. The cost was $6,000.

Bill Ridgley, a local volunteer leader instrumental in launching the Iowa location, contacted his church, Panora United Methodist Church, to find out if Midwest Mission’s need would fit the criteria for grant money he knew they offered. Income from an estate that had been left to the church is given as grant funds annually.

On Sunday, July 30, a $7,500 check was officially presented to Bill Ridgley and Midwest Mission by their trustees during their service.

Midwest Mission purchased the electric pallet jack. The remaining funds will be used for future building and equipment needs.

“We are extremely grateful for Panora’s generous donation, and willingness to invest in the organization,” said Chantel Corrie, Midwest Mission’s executive director.

Panora UMC has sent several teams to the Illinois location, and is heavily involved weekly at the Iowa location.

The Jefferson location accepts donations; makes Midwest Mission kits, sleeping mats, and rice meals; does sewing projects; and distributes various supplies locally. Items are driven to the Midwest Mission headquarters in Illinois for national and international distribution. The ministry’s mission is bringing the hearts and hands of God’s people together to transform resources into humanitarian relief.

There are openings for volunteers to serve in Jefferson. Groups and individuals can volunteer at the location, Monday through Thursday from 8:30 am to 4pm. To sign up for a shift, go to midwestmission.org/iowa or call the Iowa office at 515-386-2236.
